Do your Bit - Environmental Campaign
In 2019, I spearheaded the "Do Your Bit" environmental campaign, focusing on drastically reducing waste and emissions within the construction sector and office environments. As the Subject Matter Expert, I illuminated the significant impact of construction activities and office operations on the environment, emphasizing the burning of fossil fuels, CO2 emissions from design, manufacture, and transportation processes, and the daily operations' contribution to environmental damage. My approach hinged on the Waste Hierarchy principle—Prevention, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Dispose—to guide waste reduction in construction.
By rethinking design phases, choosing ethical supply chains, limiting fuel usage, and expediting projects, we aimed to minimize environmental impacts significantly.
The campaign also addressed the substantial paper waste in offices, promoting electronic archiving, efficient printing, and encouraging behaviors like cycling to work and local shopping to foster sustainable living habits among employees.
Redress the Mess - Housekeeping Campaign
By leveraging cutting-edge animated video technology, I created a compelling narrative that not only illustrated the importance of rigorous housekeeping practices but also effectively communicated the direct link between these standards and workplace safety. The video, characterized by its engaging animations and clear, impactful messaging, in addition I also developed a follow-up Hazard hunt excercis.
The entire campaign proven to be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety and vigilance among employees, significantly reducing housekeeping-related incidents. This initiative showcases my ability to utilise digital media for educational and preventive measures as well as my also my commitment to enhancing operational safety and employee wellbeing.
Access routes - Animated Toolbox talk
"In the 'Redress the Access' campaign, I also developed another animated safety toolbox talk video at Imtech, focusing on the critical issue of slips, trips, and falls—identified as a prevalent cause of workplace incidents in the previous year.
This video utilised a storytelling approach to not only provide a comprehensive overview of past incidents but also delve into their underlying causes and, most importantly, outline proactive prevention strategies. Through engaging animation and a clear, accessible narrative, the video served as an essential educational tool, empowering employees with the knowledge to recognize hazards and apply best practices to mitigate risks.
This initiative was pivotal in driving a significant reduction in slips, trips, and falls incidents, demonstrating my ability to craft effective safety communications that resonate with and actively engage a diverse workforce in crucial safety protocols.
Employees Health & Wellbeing Campaign
In my role at IMTECH (Now Dalkia), I pioneered a holistic wellness campaign, "Safetember," aimed at enhancing the lifestyle habits of our staff. The campaign was designed as a multi-stage initiative starting with an initial survey to capture employees' lifestyle habits.
Throughout the month, we launched a series of mini-campaigns focusing on crucial wellness pillars: fruit and vegetable intake ("5 a day"), physical activity levels, water consumption, and ergonomic practices for desk-bound employees. Each week dedicated to one of these themes provided targeted tips, activities, and encouragement to make small, impactful changes.
The campaign concluded with a second survey, allowing us to measure the tangible impact of our efforts. The results were noteworthy: fruit and vegetable consumption among participants increased from 4% to 27%, showcasing a significant dietary improvement. Although 70% reported no change in their dietary habits, the engagement in physical activities and water intake awareness showed positive trends.
To share these inspiring results and foster an ongoing conversation about health and wellness in the workplace, I created a comprehensive poster. This visual tool not only celebrated our collective achievements but also served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining these healthier lifestyle choices.
This Safetember campaign underscored my capability to design, implement, and measure the effectiveness of wellness initiatives within a corporate setting, demonstrating a profound impact on employee health and workplace culture.
HSEQ Dashboard
As a proactive Health & Safety professional, I lead the development and weekly presentation of a comprehensive H&S management dashboard for my company, offering crucial insights into the safety performance across multiple construction projects.
This initiative involves close collaboration with site teams to meticulously gather and compile KPIs, ensuring a detailed analysis of of both leading and lagging indicators such as incidents, hazard observations, high-risk activities, and compliance with safety standards.
My dashboard serves as a vital tool for the Managing Director, providing a clear snapshot of ongoing efforts to enhance workplace safety, encourage best practices, and drive continuous improvement in HSEQ performance.
My ability to synthesize complex data into actionable intelligence reflects my strong commitment to fostering a culture of safety and excellence within the organization.
HSE Leaderboard
In my role, I also produced and deployed a HSE Leaderboard, a tool designed to enhance safety and environmental performance across various operational sites.
This leaderboard ingeniously integrates both leading and lagging indicators to provide a dynamic, comprehensive assessment of HSE practices, promoting a competitive yet collaborative environment towards continuous improvement.
My efforts in developing criteria for weighting scores—encompassing aspects like audit scores, incident rates, training engagement, and hazard alert responsiveness—have significantly contributed to fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
Notably, the tool has been instrumental in recognizing and rewarding top-performing teams, thereby elevating our HSE standards. The introduction of tracking for Hazard Alerts closure rates under my initiative further underscores my commitment to operational excellence and safety, marking a significant stride in proactive risk management and operational transparency.
